Democracy

The word democracy itself means rule by the people. In a representative democracy such as the U.S., people hold political power through electing representatives, leaders who represent the people. When people vote, they are participating in democracy. When people speak out or create coalitions, this is also participating. This is called civic engagement or civic participation.

Democracy Technology

What is Democracy Technology? It is any website, app, or tool that people can access on their smartphone, tablet or computer to help them participate and be informed about the democratic process. This includes apps that help people vote, learn about the issues, join a coalition, or find info on the latest legislation.

Social Entrepreneurship & Nonprofits

Social Entrepreneurs are a rare type of entrepreneur that focus on social good, and they want to change the world for the better. The goal of a Social Entrepreneur is to start an enterprise that solves social problems and effects social change while still maintaining a profit. Through economic inclusion, digital inclusion, democratic participation and social entrepreneurship comes innovation, new ideas, new projects, new advocacy, new research, and new products that are beneficial to society. A nonprofit is different wherein the net profits from the organization will not be used to pay a specific individual.

Digital Economic Inclusion

A combination of Economic Inclusion and Digital Inclusion, in that all people should have access to the financial tools and internet tools necessary to participate in the economy. DIGICEN defines Digital Economic Inclusion as ensuring everyone has access to the variety of tools necessary to participate in the economy and society, while encouraging democratic participation and social entrepreneurship. The necessary tools include: a foundational income floor, such as a Universal Basic Income (UBI), freedom to use the CBDC, access to Internet-enabled Devices and Apps (Universal Access), and access to Democracy Technology, such as Voting Helper Apps. Digital Economic Inclusion cannot work without a commitment to diversity.
